Bakain tree also known as Bakayan or Mahanimba is a deciduous tree native to southern Asia. Owing to its medicinal properties and rich shade, Bakain tree very popular in Pakistan
The adult bakain tree has a rounded crown and commonly measures 7 to 12 meters tall, however, in exceptional circumstances, M. azedarach can attain a height of 45 meters (150 ft). The flowers are small and fragrant, with five pale purple or lilac petals, growing in clusters. The fruit is a drupe, marble-sized, light yellow at maturity, hanging on the tree all winter, and gradually becoming wrinkled and almost white. As the stem ages and grows, changes occur that transform the surface of the stem into the bark.
As deep planting encourages the developing stem to send out roots to help stabilize the plant and perhaps eliminate the need for staking. So, deep planting keeps Bakain tree cool when temperatures soar. Enrich the soil with leaf mold or well-rotted organic matter. So that good drainage for Bakain Tree can be ensured.
Effective as a specimen or in small groups. And is used as Shrub borders, foundations, Screen or informal hedge for property lines or Cottage gardens.
It is used for ornamental purpose. Its generally keep indoor in the living room or in terrace area.
It known as Mahanimba in Sanskrit and used for treating various diseases. Because Bakain Tree has antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, cardio-protective, analgesic, anticancer, antiulcer, antipyretic, anti-plasmodial activities.
