Pesticides

Pesticide is a product or mixture of products used to prevent, destroy, eliminate or reduce pests. Pests can be insects, rodents, plants, fungi, bacteria or other organisms that harm crops, animals, humans or the environment. Further more they play an important role in today’s agriculture by protecting plants from pests and diseases, ensuring food security and increasing agricultural productivity.

There are many types of pesticides, including:

• Insecticides:
  These are used to control pests that will damage crops.
• Herbicides:
  These chemicals are designed to control or kill unwanted plants, commonly known as weeds.
• Fungicides:
  These chemicals kill fungal diseases that can affect plants.
• Rodenticides:
  Used to control rodents such as mice and rats.
• Bactericides:
  Bacteria can cause disease in plants or animals.
  Additionally it can be synthetic or natural. Synthetic pesticides are chemicals designed to control pests; Pesticides, on the other hand, are obtained from natural sources such as plants, animals or minerals.While pesticides help increase agricultural productivity, they also cause environmental and health problems. Further more misuse or overuse of pesticides can cause a number of problems, including:
• Residue in Food:
  They can remain on crops and leach into foods if not managed properly.
• Environmental Pollution:
  Runoff from treatment plants can affect ecosystems by contaminating water and introducing harmful organisms.
• Development of Resistance:
  At the same time, pests develop resistance to pesticides, reducing their effectiveness.
• Harm to Non-Target Organisms:
  They can harm beneficial insects, birds and other organisms that are important for maintaining ecological balance.
