PEAT MOSS
Peat Moss is an organic material widely used in gardening and horticulture. It can obtain from a portion of decomposed plants, mostly sphagnum moss, found in waterlogged conditions where decomposition is slow. It is known for its ability to retain water and nutrients, making it a popular material in many soil mixes.
- Water Retention:
Peat moss has excellent water retention properties. It absorbs and retains a lot of water and provides the same moisture to the plants. This is especially useful in preventing the soil from drying out too quickly. - Aeration:
It helps prevent compaction, thus improving soil structure. This promotes better aeration, allowing the roots to receive more oxygen. Good soil aeration is important for root growth and overall plant health. - Insulation and Temperature Regulation:
Peat Moss acts as an insulator and helps maintain soil temperature. This is especially beneficial for plants when weather conditions are extreme because it provides a barrier against heat. - pH Adjustment:
It is acidic in nature, making it suitable for plants that thrive in acidic soil conditions. It can low the pH of the soil, favouring acid-loving plants such as blueberries, azaleas and rhododendrons.
